Actions started last fall to begin notifying owners of eyesore properties in Crosby that their buildings could be torn down will have another month to show some improvement.
Last week’s council meeting, June 4, was set as the time for the hearing on 14 properties deemed to be out of compliance with city ordinances requiring buildings to meet minimum standards on the city’s housing code -- such as intact roofs, adequate plumbing and electrical systems.
City Attorney Seymour Jordan opened the hearing by explaining how the action started with complaints about a particular property that appeared to be in disrepair, which led to the status of several other properties being reviewed. Based on the city ordinance, he said, an inspector from the city of Williston was appointed to assess the properties on the city’s behalf.
Though most of the properties on the list are single residences, two are former car dealerships. One is a building owned by Joel Benson and expected to go back to the county for taxes in the fall; the other, the former Ingwalson Motors building, is now owned by a Bismarck man.
