Social services regionalization not popular idea in Divide

Social services may become the next battleground between counties seeking to maintain local control and state officials advocating regionalization.

County commissioners from Divide and Williams counties oppose regionalization.

Chris Jones, director of Human Services in North Dakota, calls for realigning 46 county offices serving 53 counties, replacing them with 19 regions.

“It’s going to be just like Northwest Human Services,” said Divide County Commissioner Doug Graupe. “They regionalized it, moved everything to Williston and now we don’t get any mental health services up here.”
