Asbestos questions keep buildings off county tax sale

Next month’s tax foreclosure sale won’t include the former Tuftedal Chevrolet building now owned by Joel Benson.

Divide County Commissioners decided at their meeting last week not to accept or appraise  the property on the corner of Central Avenue and First Street West.

It’s a scenario they’ve been discussing with County Attorney Seymour Jordan since last March.

“If the deed is recorded, it becomes the county’s property to appraise and sell,” Jordan said, referencing preparations to list the property at the November tax sale. “If the deed’s not recorded, the property remains Benson’s.”
