The city projects that it will collect nearly twice its past annual revenue from residential and commercial water customers in 2019.
A small portion of that increased revenue will be from a $2 hike in the base rate charged to residential water customers, which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2018. The larger share of the new revenue originates with the annexation of the Hess offices into the City of Tioga.
Hess has bought its water directly from R&T Water Supply as a bulk user in the past. However, earlier this year the City of Tioga annexed the Hess Corporation’s local offices into the city. Hess now purchases its water supply from the city instead of directly from R&T.
“We haven’t annexed the plant,” City Auditor Abby Salinas said. “But in the condition that we were annexing the offices ,it was also in there that we would take over the water for the whole area, which includes the plant.”
